FAQs on Setting up the System and Channel Management
Why do I see numbers for 2 channels, e.g. <5,35> in the voting bar when running a session?
The first single-digit number or letter is the channel for the larger, silver PRS-RF handsets, and the second two-digit number is the channel for the Crickets. To remove the first channel, go to manage my data, select classes. Select my class and edit class. Select clicker setup and uncheck PRS RF/Virtual Clicker and IR. The only clicker selected should be the Cricket. Click OK. Now you should only see one channel.
Can I set up a mobile clicker receiver next to a managed desktop machine with a permanent receiver? Can I run clicker sessions in adjoining lecture theatres?
Yes, the system automatically detects a frequency which is available (not used by any other receiver in the area). So even if lecturers are running RF clicker sessions in adjoining lecture theatres, they will collect votes on different channels and therefore not interfere with each others’ voting process.
Students have registered to a channel and the green light is flashing slowly (indicating that voting should work) – but their vote doesn’t get received?
This might happen, because you stopped a session (which automatically disconnects all handsets from the session). The handset will still think it is connected and therefore the light is still on, until students switch off their handset or the handset switches itself off automatically (after one hour on non-use). To reconnect to a channel ask your students to switch off their handsets (pressing the on/off button for a few seconds), until all the lights are switched off. Then switch the handset on again and re-register to the channel displayed in the voting bar. This should allow students to participate in the voting process again.
Response can’t detect a receiver (although it is plugged in), what can I do?
You need to plug in the receiver before you launch the software for Response to automatically detect the receiver. If the receiver is plugged in after the software is launched, you need to go to “Set up my Hardware”, “Receivers”, “Scan Ports”. The system should now start to look for a receiver.
How can I test whether the system is set up properly?
You can test the system set up under “Set up my Hardware”. Select “Test System” and click on “Start RF Receiver”. The system will look for a channel. Once a channel is found e.g. <51>, you can register your handsets to the channel and press any button on the handset. Each action should be recorded on the screen.
FAQs on Running a Clicker Session
How do I change my settings while my session is running (e.g. show / don’t show chart automatically)?
There is a little icon on your voting bar called preferences (next to the blue question mark). When you click on it a number of options for general preferences will appear, e.g. automatically start question, advance question, show chart.
Impromptu mode - I don’t seem to be able to indicate the correct answer of a question?
Check if you have selected letters or numbers as answer options. If you selected letters, the system will only allow letters to be typed in - if you selected numbers, you can only type in numbers.
Impromptu mode - how do I change the number of options and the correct option of a question?
Use the change to impromptu mode icon in your voting bar and apply changes.
Why can't I see any data in my reports? The error message I get reads "No data was returned for this report."
This might be because you have pending list of clickers/students. Go to manage my data, classes, my class. Select roster. Check if there is any data under pending list (lower part of the right pane). If yes, click on "Move all students to the official roster". This should move the data to the upper part of the right pane into the roster. You should now see data in the reports.
