Electronic Voting Systems (EVS), aka clickers, have been used in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) since 2004/2005 to add interactivity and engagement to lectures.
Clickers are hand-held personal response systems (similar to those used in the TV programme “Who wants to be a Millionaire?”) that students can use to respond to questions posed by their lecturer. Gathering responses from students during lectures has helped lecturers gauge the understanding of their students, giving them a chance to focus on areas the class is struggling with.
Currently about 80 lecturers are using clickers in the CSE - mainly in first and second year courses. For more detailed information on experiences with clickers in the CSE in 2007/2008 see the report on clicker staff perception . This year we have collected staff perception on the recent RF clicker upgrade (report here).
You might have questions regarding the upgrade to the RF technology. We have tried to answer a few of the most popular questions here . You can always contact us by phone (505014) or email (daniela.gachago@ed.ac.uk) if you would like discuss further issues or raise other questions.
