Postgraduate Degrees Offered

The College of Science and Engineering consists of seven academic 'Schools', all which offer a range of postgraduate opportunities from one year taught Masters and Diploma programmes to two year MPhil and three year PhD research degrees.

Research

We offer research degrees of PhD (36 months full-time/60 months part-time) and MPhil (24 months full-time/48 months part-time) in subjects ranging from Astronomy to Zoology.

The degree of Master of Science (MSc/Dip) by Research, is also offered for some subjects areas. This degree comes in two different options:

  • A completely research based degree, which leads to the examination of a thesis.
  • Courses which combine a taught element with an extended piece of individual scholarly research.

Both these MSc options can be taken over twelve months (full-time) or twenty four months (part-time).

For further information on our postgraduate research opportunities, and contact details for our academic Schools, please see our Research Degrees page.

Taught

A range of taught postgraduate courses, lasting 12 months and leading to the degree of Master of Science (MSc) or a postgraduate Diploma, is also available. For further information on these courses, please see Taught Degrees. In addition, and in conjunction with other European institutions, our School of Informatics also offers a 24 month European Masters in Informatics.

College Funding

The College has substantial funding, from external and internal sources, to support a number of research scholarships each year. These scholarships can take the form of full scholarships, which cover a contribution to fees and living costs, or can be part scholarships which cover a contribution to either fees or living costs.

For further details of what funding may be available and eligibility criteria please refer to the individual School’s web site or contact the school to discuss your possible options. Please note that the allocation of funding is done at the application stage and can not be considered after you have been made an offer of a place or have commenced your programme of study. You must therefore ensure that you inform the School that you are looking for funding at the earliest opportunity.
