Team and Research Group Development

Designed for 1st year PhD students, this course provides an opportunity to build your project planning and management skills through team-based exercises with other research students. The course is designed to help you work more effectively during your PhD and has been developed by experts from industry, academia and other sectors to ensure the skills are relevant to future careers. During the course you will:

• Explore and identify the key elements of team-working, planning and project management and relate these to situations you may face during your research;
• Develop your networking and effective communication skills, helping you to build prefessional working relationships with other researchers and make an impact in the research community;
• Learn different skills thorugh structured exercises and review sessions;
• Share feedback with other students on your overall effectiveness, helping you to identify your strengths and areas to develop;
• Learn how to create a support network to help your future research and networking;

The course runs over two days with tutors from academia and other research environments.

Who should attend

The course is suitable for all postgraduate research students, particularly those in the first year of a research degree. Attendance is free for postgraduate students registered with the University of Edinburgh.
